- 12 weeks to launch
The company sold serious professional courses, but ran them on a patchwork of Zoom links, Google Docs, and a self-paced video library. Learners started strong, drifted by week three, and quietly disappeared. Completion sat at 23%, and refund requests tracked it.
The founders knew the fix was structure: cohorts, deadlines, visible progress, peers who notice when you're gone. The patchwork couldn't deliver any of it.
What we did
The approach, decision by decision
- 01
Built the accountability loop into the product
Cohort dashboards show streaks, submitted assignments, and who's fallen behind. Instructors see the drift in week two, while a nudge still works.
- 02
Made live sessions the spine, not an extra
Scheduling, recordings, attendance, and follow-up assignments hang off each session, so missing one has a visible cost and an obvious recovery path.
- 03
Engineered for launch-day spikes
Cohort launches concentrate thousands of learners into the same hour. Load-tested to 3x the biggest cohort before the first one went live.
The results
- Completion rose from 23% to 68% across the first six cohorts on the platform.
- 5,000 concurrent learners at peak with p95 page loads under 400ms.
- Refund requests fell by more than half as completion climbed.
- NPS of 61, and the recordings library became a second product line.
